Simple Syrup Recipe

 

Simple Syrup is a great way to fix a cake that might have turned a bit dry but it can be used to add flavors to cakes. This liquid is used by bartenders on drinks and it can be added to jams to thin them out  for ice creams or even pancake syrups.  So many options!

 

Simple Syrup Basic Recipe


Ingredients:
 

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 cup of water

 

Directions:

 

 

Place sugar in sauce pan and add the water.  When the mixture starts boiling, bring the temperature to a medium heat. As soon as the sugar is dissolve your simple syrup will be done. You can add any flavors or liqueurs to the syrup to complement the flavor of the cake. Let the syrup cool down completely before adding to cake. Can be stored for 2 months in the fridge. 

Simple Recipe with Liqueur

 

Ingredients:


 

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2/3 cups of water

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or any extract you like)

  • 1/4 cup of Amaretto or Rum ( I love Bacardi or Don Q) Or any flavor liqueur you like)

 

Directions:

 

Place sugar in sauce pan and add the water.  When the mixture starts boiling, bring the temperature to a medium heat. As soon as the sugar is dissolve your simple syrup will be done. You can add any flavors or liqueurs to the syrup to complement the flavor of the cake.1/4 cup is an approximation, you can add less or more is you want too. You can always add more water if you want less liqueur. Let the syrup cool down completely before adding to cake. Can be stored for 2 months in the fridge. 

Almond Syrup Puertorrican Style


 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoons of rum, amaretto or brandy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon  almond extract
  • 1 cup of sugar

 

Directions:


Place sugar and water in a pan and bring to a boil, then lower to a medium heat.  When sugar dissolve, add the extract and the rum, amaretto or brandy. Let this cool
